The changing world of electricity
Can you imagine the world without electricity in this modern era?
Definitely, the answer will be NO because our modern lifestyle is heavily dependent on numerous technological inventions which you just cannot work without electricity. Electricity is a global network which binds our world together.Electricity is the lifeline of all the appliances which we use in our daily life.i.e., from household to office work, transportation and everything else. The demand for electricity has tremendously increased from past few decades,
The world of electricity is changing, Electrical engineers have improved the process of generation and utilisation of electrical power and have made it faster, more efficient and safer for the environment.when we talk about electrical engineering it can be said that it is a branch of engineering science that studies the use of electricity and the equipment for power generation and distribution and the control machines and communications. An electrical engineer can work with many different kinds of electromagnetics fields such as digital signals that send information to cell phones, microwaves that can help to detect diseases and the light waves used by night vision technology.they help to maintain and expand the networks that send information over the internet, control navigation of aeroplanes and ships, and power medical devices like MRI scanners.
The proposed future for the next generation power transmission system will be wireless power transmission system.any problem can be solved by Engineering department. The problem of increase in power loss during transmission and distribution due to the resistance of wires used for grid can be eliminated by wireless power transmission.According to the World resources Institutes(WRI), India's electricity grid has the highest transmission and distribution losses in the world.Electrical engineers are still attempting for an alternative option that could provide high efficiency and low transmission and also free from power theft.
Nikola Tesla is the one who first conceived the idea of wireless power transmission and demonstrated "the transmission of electric energy without wires" that depends upon electrical conductivity.
Wireless power transmission will completely eliminate the existing high power transmission lines cables, towers and substation between the generating station and consumers and facilitates the interconnection of electrical generation plants on a global scale. It has more freedom of choice of both receivers and transmitters.
The power failure due to short circuit and fault on cables would never exist in transmission and power theft would not be possible at all.The capital cost of the practical implementation of WPT seems to be very high and other disadvantages of the concept are interference of microwaves with the present communication system.common beliefs fear the effect of microwave radiation.but the study in this domain repeatedly proves the microwave radiations level would be never higher than the dose received while opening the microwave oven door, meaning it is slightly higher than the emissions created by cellular telephones. This concept offers greater possibilities of transmitting power with negligible losses and ease of transmission than any invention or discovery made.
Dr.Neville of NASA states"You don't need cables, pipes, or copper wires to receive power.we can send it to you like a cell phone call where you want it, when you want it, in real tine."We can expect with certitude that in next few years wonders will be brought by its applications if all the conditions are favourable.
